A CarFax report must be read with the correct perspective in mind. The most important items on the report are the salvage history, whether true mileage is known, flood damage, airbag deployed, and frame damage. These issues are indicators of a trouble car that should be avoided.

A less important item is the accident indicator. Most cars have been involved in a minor fender bender. Some states report every minor accident. Don’t be misled or deterred by these minor accidents. A major accident will result in a branded title. Stay away from the major incidents and don’t be concerned with the minor ones. There is no such thing as a perfect used car. There are always tradeoffs and you should be aware of which ones are important and which ones are not.
